Their scripts will be shared at a virtual exhibition and on the program website. Fellows should expect to spend four hours per week on this workshop. They’ll analyze successful short films and screenplays, learn the basics of three-act structure and correct screenplay format, try pitching and writing a treatment, then through virtual workshopping, learn to constructively critique each other’s work as they push toward polished drafts. In virtual meetings and through shared online platforms, they’ll learn what makes a good story, what makes a good character, and how to communicate visually, with special emphasis on externalizing the characters' interior lives. In this distance learning workshop, student fellows will write very short scripts (4-5 pages) for very short films, films that can be made with a limited cast in limited locations on smartphones, and still deliver real punch.
